EMS residency in Stockholm, July 2016

I’m currently a composer in residence at Elektronmusikstudion, Stockholm. I’ve been working on a new composition and have particularly appreciated using the INO monitor system in Studio 3. Amazing sound. Thanks to all the staff here (Henrik, Mats, Joel, Gabrielle, Ylva, Pär and Mats) for making it an excellent, productive and enjoyable week.

Book chapter published in ‘Expanding the horizon of electroacoustic music analysis’

I’m pleased to announce that my chapter ‘Temporal recurrence in Andrew Lewis’s Penmon Point‘ has recently been published in the new book Expanding the horizon of electroacoustic music analysis, edited by Simon Emmerson and Leigh Landy and published by Cambridge University Press.

Published on 7th April, this edited collection presents a state-of-the-art overview of analysis methods for electroacoustic music in this rapidly developing field. My chapter appears in the final section of the book, which demonstrates new analytical methods in action. The chapter focuses on the analysis of Andrew Lewis’s acousmatic work Penmon Point, exploring the various sound identities encountered during the work, how they function when they recur, and contemplating why they are significant.

New article published in music analysis journal Musimédiane

I recently completed an article for the online journal Musimédiane. (http://www.musimediane.com) Included in Volume 8 and entitled Higher-level Relationships in Dhomont’s Novars, the article explores the recurrence of sound materials and how they operate at global levels of structure. The online presentation has allowed for embedding of audio examples taken from the work into the text. Sincere thanks to Francis Dhomont and Jean-François Denis for permission to include the audio.  Happy reading!

EMS residency complete
